He named the most prominent land feature Cape Fear. He named the river by the cape Cape Fear River. A little to the northeast he found a second river which he named ... wait for it ... Northeast Cape Fear River. There is a town on the Cape Fear River named Cape Fear that was the setting for a novel and two movies based on the novel. <br /><br />Despite the negative connotations of "Cape Fear," however, we do have it better than the folks up the coast from us. There whole region was named after William, Earl of Craven.
