I agree with what your said in your post that sex scenes can reveal a lot about the characters. But some authors don't take advantage of the subtleties you mention. So I don't read their sex scenes.

When an author has taken the time to write a sex scene that contributes to the plot or characterization, though, I do read it.Shauna Robertshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03871768714926149114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-80568039566262063142009-08-13T09:43:54.719-04:002009-08-13T09:43:54.719-04:00Absolutely!

I learned that it wasn't the act that was important as much as it was the lead up.

Great topic, Kaz!Maria Zanninihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01604862636922299273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-36361162419429308902009-08-12T20:13:25.586-04:002009-08-12T20:13:25.586-04:00Great article, Kaz!

That may sound strange - but it goes with the whole "it depends upon the story" thing.

:)
G.Genella deGreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13129942813842907408noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-7923018964745693912009-08-12T19:39:44.360-04:002009-08-12T19:39:44.360-04:00Thank you, Marissa and Liane. :) The problem is, t...Thank you, Marissa and Liane. :) The problem is, the readership is so large and varied, you can't possibly satisfy everyone.

As I first started by writing erotic romance, Liane, the issue of how much detail to go into really didn't come into play. LOL But all the others certainly do, and readers are the first to pull you up on anything that's expressed clumsily. But yeah, difficult to write? Absolutely. How much is too much? Is it really necessary to go into graphic detail? Which euphemisms cut it, and which don't?

I find writing them gets harder as I go along.
