Since my budget doesn't extend to personal organizers I have no choice but to keep my small workspace orderly. In theory.

In practice what happens is that every few months I look up in surprise and realize that my order has gone to hell while I wasn't looking. I spend a day or two getting reorganized then I don't look up for another couple of months.Liane Spicerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05035607144500219524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-23994242464147874092012-01-25T11:52:03.593-05:002012-01-25T11:52:03.593-05:00MIA, thank you for dropping by.MIA, thank you for dropping by.Shauna Robertshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03871768714926149114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-88664694643458816692012-01-23T10:46:06.022-05:002012-01-23T10:46:06.022-05:00Hi Shauna, Well written article, properly research...Hi Shauna, Well written article, properly researched and helpful for me throughout the future.I am so joyful you took the time and effort to make this article. KEVIN, that...PHYLLIS, glad you enjoyed the post!

KEVIN, that must be hard not to have a dedicated office. I doubt I'd get anything if I were constantly moving from place to place to write. I find I concentrate best in my office and have a hard time writing anywhere else.

CHARLES, yeah, I LOVED having tables on three sides of me. If we ever move, that's the set up I will use again.

JEWEL, I'm always surprised by how many people can write outside their offices; nothing feels right when I try to write outside my office, and I get little done. One of the advantages of a professional organizer is a fresh look at your space and how you're using it. A friend might be able to look at your office and figure out ways to make it more inviting and more conducive to writing, and that would be free. (She probably wouldn't do any of the work for you, though.)Shauna Robertshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03871768714926149114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-77592246243537233322012-01-21T12:32:29.737-05:002012-01-21T12:32:29.737-05:00I have a love-hate relationship with my home offic...I have a love-hate relationship with my home office. My home office is in my formal living room, since I don't see the point of having both a dedicated living room and a family room. It sometimes doubles as a playroom for the kids. Other times I dump them and their toys out of the room and it gets overrun with papers.

The thing is, no matter how I organize that office I find I am unable to write in it. So most of my writing or any other work for that matter is done outside the office.

As for a professional organizer, I don't see myself affording one anytime in the near future, but it is a good idea. It might help me to finally be able to work in my home office.Jewel Amethysthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14813773386476356666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-46702971179217258962012-01-21T11:40:25.915-05:002012-01-21T11:40:25.915-05:00That work cockpit ideas is a great one. I have something similar set up in both my home office and my work office, I've got tables on three sides in both places so that I can spread stuff out. It still fills up, but it helps, and helps when I begin the clean up/organizing job myself.Charles Gramlichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02052592247572253641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-89671430915727751572012-01-21T11:06:28.561-05:002012-01-21T11:06:28.561-05:00You only spent 15 to 30 minutes looking for things...You only spent 15 to 30 minutes looking for things? I'm envious.
My home office doubles as the family temporary (ha!) storage room for things they're not sure is junk but don't have a place for right now. My usual routine is to spelunk for things I need, load them in my satchel and head for Port City Java to write. (Or, on days like today, the kitchen table.)
Maybe Kvaad Press can hire a professional organizer.
And an armed guard to keep family members with boxes out.KeVin K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/14792797517571690942noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-90516452504818158262012-01-21T08:30:50.759-05:002012-01-21T08:30:50.759-05:00"My office is a haven again and no longer a p..."My office is a haven again and no longer a place of stress."

I love this line.
