Story always comes first...You're right, Farrah. Story always comes first. I adore pretty language - I can hyperventilate over a well turned metaphor - but that alone won't hold me. As long as the writing isn't full of errors that pull me out of the story, a great tale trumps all every time.Liane Spicerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05035607144500219524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-28026432701339925962010-01-05T01:08:45.466-05:002010-01-05T01:08:45.466-05:00Good post. You're absolutely right, good editing is the lifeline of the storyteller who can spin a great tale, but is less detailed about the elegance of the language.Jewel Amethysthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14813773386476356666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-68378203224991615502010-01-04T19:38:07.336-05:002010-01-04T19:38:07.336-05:00Shauna, thanks for correcting my instrument choice...Shauna, thanks for correcting my instrument choice. You'd know way better than I would. :)

I'm the opposite when it comes to writing. I don't concentrate enough on word choice, and get wrapped up in the story. Thank goodness for the editing stage.

I went back and read your post, Chicki. Very good observation! I think creative people put up with repeatedly being rejected because we simply must do what we are called to do. We love our respective crafts too much not to do them.

BTW, I loved Mercedes, too! :)Farrah Rochonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13734081434172632431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5594341074652821017.post-28490959986462799382010-01-04T12:24:30.310-05:002010-01-04T12:24:30.310-05:00Insightful entry, Farrah. "Skeletons copulating on a tin roof" is how one person famously described the sound of a harpsichord.

Good post. I always have trouble with this in my writing. I get too wrapped up in trying to improve the language and don't spend enough time on upping the reader excitement.Shauna Robertshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03871768714926149114noreply@blogger.com
